Talent: Caroline Mackintosh

I wanted to share a recent shoot by the talented Caroline Mackintosh. Caroline is from Cape Town, South Africa, the same place I am and I have loved reading her photography blog Lock of Gold for a while now. This latest shoot she did caught my eye too because I can see a mile away it is styled by my friend, designer and incredible stylist Nicholas Coutts. Also the model is Angelo Page, who I went to fashion school with. I asked Caroline a few questions, check them out after the images. And take a look at Lock of Gold here.

Where are you from and how long have you been doing photography?
I was born and raised in Cape Town, for me still one of the most inspiring cities to live in. I have been interested in Photography since High School but only started taking it seriously after I got back from my travels through Europe, this time last year.

What is your favorite subject to shoot?
My favourite subjects have always been nudes, there is something timeless about them. However this being said, I do love shooting Fashion, nothing make me happier than going to the Exclusives on Kloof and buying an ID mag or Lula. Reading through it and getting inspired. Lately though I have discovered that my favourite subject to shoot if Boys Fashion, something which I want to seriously pursue.

What do you think about the photography and creative industry in South Africa?
I feel the thinking of established Fashion Magazines in Cape town is quite backward, almost old fashioned. But there is some really exciting stuff coming from the young creatives of today.  Although the industry has a long way to go , they are really pushing boundaries and doing some really great work.

Where would you like your photography career to go in the next few years, any big dreams?
This time next year I want to be overseas, for now I am aiming at New York. In a few years I want to be shooting for the likes of Dazed and Confused, Hero, Lula and the rest of those magazines! I know they are  big dreams but isn't that a girl's prerogative.
